Telegram from the French Foreign Ministry to Geoffroy Chodron de Courcel on WEU–NATO relations (12 September 1967)
Text On 12 September 1967, as discussions are held concerning a draft report drawn up by the Secretariat-General of Western European Union (WEU) and reviewed in the WEU Council on relations between the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and WEU, the French Foreign Ministry notifies the French Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Geoffroy Chodron de Courcel, of the statements that he can make in the forthcoming debates. The ministry informs the Ambassador that the French Government will abide by the ceilings of French troops stationed in Germany, while noting that this statement, made in a spirit of conciliation, does not entail any changes to the applicable legislation.
