Text In 1957, in response to events in Hungary and in the Suez Canal Zone, Alfred Müller-Armack, adviser to Ludwig Erhard, German Minister for Economic Affairs, speculates on whether the intergovernmental negotiations being conducted on the Common Market will enable Europe to assume its political responsibilities.
