In this interview excerpt, Astrid Lulling, a Member of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies from 1965 to 1989 and a Member of the European Parliament from 1965 to 1974 and from 1989 to 2014, discusses the debates over the Language Law initiated by Pierre Werner, Minister of State and President of the Luxembourg Government from 1959 to 1974 and from 1979 to 1984 and Minister for Cultural Affairs from 1979 to 1984. The Law was adopted by the Chamber of Deputies in 1984. She also describes the lack of commitment on the part of the government, after the adoption of the law, to encourage the development of the Luxembourgish language.
