Text On 19 April 1999, during the third Intergovernmental Conference between the European Union (EU) and Cyprus, George Vassiliou, former President of the Republic of Cyprus and Chief Negotiator for the island’s accession to the EU, emphasises the efforts made by his country to comply with the Community acquis.
