On 24 September 1946, commenting on the fact that several federalist Congresses have been held in Switzerland, the Italian daily newspaper Il nuovo Corriere della Sera attempts to define the notion of a European spirit and emphasises its characteristic values.
In 1948, the federalist Alexandre Marc publishes Within man’s reach: the federalist revolution. In the book, he gives an initial appraisal of federalist activities in support of a united Europe.
At the European Federalist Movement Congress held in Milan from 15 to 17 February 1948, Henri Brugmans gives an address on the independence of Europe from the United States and the Soviet Union.
