On 6 May 1964, the Secretary-General of Western European Union (WEU) circulates the WEU Council’s reply to Assembly Recommendation 97 on the state of European security, disarmament and the nuclear force. The Council shares the Assembly’s views on the importance for the security of Western Europe of general disarmament under effective international inspection and control. Moreover, since the question of disarmament and arms control in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) has the continuous attention of the North Atlantic Council, the Recommendation has been forwarded to it.
