‘The Council of Europe fears the loss of its specific nature with the enlargement of the EU’ from Le Monde (4 March 2005)
Texte On 4 March 2005, three days after the meeting in Brussels between Terry Davis, Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, and José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, the French daily newspaper Le Monde echoes the concerns of the Council of Europe that the European Union is encroaching on its main area of activity, the protection of human rights, by establishing institutions which would carry out the same task.
